Waisenhäuser in der Frühen Neuzeit

Anläßlich des 300. Gründungsjubiläums des Halleschen Waisenhauses veranstaltete das Interdisziplinäre Zentrum für Pietismusforschung der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg in Verbindung mit den Franckeschen Stiftungen vom 21. bis 23. September 1998 ein internationales Kolloquium. In den Beiträgen wurde die Bedeutung des nach niederländischen Vorbildern konzipierten Halleschen Waisenhauses im Kontext zeitgenössischer Anstalten der Armen- und Waisenpflege konturiert. Die Publikation ermöglicht eine umfassendere Analyse des vielschichtigen Spannungsfeldes ordnungspolitischer, wirtschaftlich-merkantilistischer und religiös-caritativer Motivationen und Institutionalisierungen sowie eine präzisere Bestimmung der Bedeutung des Pietismus in diesem Zusammenhang.

On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of the founding of the Halle Orphanage, the Interdisciplinary Center for Pietism Research at Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, in conjunction with the Francke Foundations, held an international colloquium from September 21 to 23, 1998. The contributions outlined the significance of the Halle Orphanage, which was modeled on Dutch examples, in the context of contemporary institutions for the care of the poor and orphans. The publication enables a more comprehensive analysis of the complex interplay between regulatory, economic-mercantilist, and religious-charitable motivations and institutionalizations, as well as a more precise determination of the significance of Pietism in this context.
