Reisen und Religion im langen 18. Jahrhundert

The 18th century was an era of exploration into new territories, new cultures, and new ways of life—and religion traveled with it. The contributions in this volume examine the resulting diverse interdenominational and interreligious encounters from various academic perspectives. The focus is on the impulses of actors from the Protestant reform movements associated with the term Pietism. This reveals its significance as a transnational and globally effective force of the early modern period on the threshold of modernity, parallel to the travels of Jesuits, Islamic scholars, and research expeditions in the age of colonialism.
