PRAXIS PIETATIS MELICA

Volume II/1.1 offers a bibliography of PRAXIS PIETATIS MELICA, expanded to include numerous image and text documents (e.g. illustrations, prefaces). The bibliography catalogues this song collection, considered one of the most successful works in the history of hymnals, for the first time in the multitude and diversity of its editions published in four series (Berlin, Frankfurt/Main, Stettin, Hamburg). Instead of a purely chronological sequence, the bibliography is divided into six chapters according to edition groups, so that the main features of the work's history are already visible in the layout. Within the chapters, the descriptions of the individual editions covered form, in a sense, individual articles of similar structure, each accompanied by a commentary as an essential component. These comments, which take up considerable space, are largely designed as a reconstruction of previous bibliographical research on PRAXIS PIETATIS MELICA based on a thorough evaluation of the literature and also point out remaining research desiderata.
