Martin Luther und Halle

Die Ausstellung vom 18. Februar bis 24. April 1996 zum Anlass nehmend, zeichnet der Katalog ein vielschichtiges Bild der spannenden und facettenreichen Beziehung des Reformators zur Stadt Halle, für die er von ebensolcher Bedeutung war, wie Halle für ihn – nicht zuletzt als Ort der Auseinandersetzung mit Kardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg (1490–1545). Den Beiträgen gelingt es, biographische und kirchenhistorische Aspekte zu verknüpfen und somit einen Einblick in die bewegte Geschichte der Reformation und der Anhänger Martin Luthers (1483–1546) in Halle zu geben. Über August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) und den Pietismus wird schließlich ein interessanter ideengeschichtlicher Bogen reformatorischer Bestrebungen in Halle geschlagen. Informative und zum Teil mit Abbildungen versehene Beschreibungen der Ausstellungsstücke, darunter Original-Manuskripte und Bildnisse, runden den Band ab.

Taking the exhibition from 18 February to 24 April 1996 as its starting point, the catalogue paints a multi-layered picture of the reformer's exciting and multifaceted relationship with the city of Halle, for which he was as important as Halle was for him – not least as the site of his confrontation with Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg (1490–1545). The contributions succeed in linking biographical and church-historical aspects, thus providing an insight into the turbulent history of the Reformation and the followers of Martin Luther (1483–1546) in Halle. Finally, August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) and Pietism provide an interesting historical overview of the ideas behind the Reformation efforts in Halle. Informative descriptions of the exhibits, some of which are accompanied by illustrations, including original manuscripts and portraits, round off the volume.
