Der Pietismus des 18.Jahrhunderts gilt nicht nur als religiöse, sondern auch als politisch-soziale Reformbewegung, die sich auf unterschiedliche Bereiche der frühneuzeitlichen Gesellschaft auswirkte. Die These, dass auch die Medizin vom Pietismus beeinflusst und verändert wurde, wird in der vorliegenden Studie am Beispiel des Halleschen Pietismus in seinem institutionellen Zentrum, den Franckeschen Anstalten, überprüft. Pietistische Medizin – so das Ergebnis – war eine Ziel- und Wunschvorstellung, deren praktische Umsetzung auf erhebliche Schwierigkeiten stieß.

18th-century Pietism is regarded not only as a religious movement but also as a political and social reform movement that had an impact on various areas of early modern society. This study examines the thesis that medicine was also influenced and changed by Pietism, using the example of Pietism in Halle at its institutional center, the Francke Institutions. The conclusion is that Pietist medicine was an ideal and a desire whose practical implementation encountered considerable difficulties.
