Hallesche Theologen in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts

Die Studie untersucht auf der Basis archivalischer und gedruckter Quellen das Agieren Hallescher Theologen in der zweiten Hälfte des 18. Jahrhunderts im Spannungsfeld von Hallescher Universität, Franckeschen Anstalten und Berliner Hof. Jenseits einer Fortschreibung der im späten 18. bzw. 19. Jahrhundert entstandenen Masternarrative »der Pietismus« und »die Aufklärung« in Abgrenzung von einem pejorativen Orthodoxiebegriff ist das Ziel der Studie die Erhellung dynamischer Aushandlungsprozesse im Kontext der Rezeption unterschiedlicher Traditionen. Nach der Vorstellung der historischen Akteure und institutionellen Strukturen werden zunächst theologische Beiträge in den Wöchentlichen Hallischen Anzeigen als populärwissenschaftlichem Medium ausgewertet. Anschließend kommen Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Berliner Hof, u.a. um Studienreformen und Berufungen, sowie ausgewählte Konfliktfelder vor Ort, wie z.B. Auseinandersetzungen um den Universitätsgottesdienst, in den Blick. Breiten Raum nimmt die Analyse von Traditionsbildungen im Zuge der Erstellung von Rückblicken und Würdigungen Verstorbener ein. Eine Auswahl an zentralen Quellen ist im Anhang ediert.

Based on archival and printed sources, this study examines the activities of Halle theologians in the second half of the 18th century in the context of tensions between Halle University, Francke's institutions and the Berlin court. Going beyond a continuation of the master narratives of ›Pietism‹ and ›the Enlightenment‹ that emerged in the late 18th and 19th centuries, in contrast to a pejorative concept of orthodoxy, the aim of the study is to shed light on dynamic negotiation processes in the context of the reception of different traditions. After introducing the historical actors and institutional structures, theological contributions in the Wöchentliche Hallische Anzeigen (Weekly Halle Advertisements) will first be evaluated as a popular scientific medium. Subsequently, the focus shifts to disputes with the Berlin court, including those concerning study reforms and appointments, as well as selected areas of conflict on site, such as disputes over university services. The analysis of the formation of traditions in the course of the creation of retrospectives and tributes to the deceased takes up a large part of the study. A selection of key sources is included in the appendix.
