Frühmoderne Bücherwelten

Der Katalog beleuchtet anhand von neun Aufsätzen namhafter Wissenschaftler und durch den üppig bebilderten Katalogteil anhand von über 300 wertvollen und seltenen Exponaten aus mehreren Jahrhunderten die Entwicklung der Bibliothek und Buchkultur von der Mitte des 17. Jahrhunderts bis ca. 1830. Neben dem Aufbau von Ordnungssystemen anhand von Bibliothekskatalogen, der Herausbildung des neuen Berufsstandes Bibliothekar und der architektonischen Betrachtung einschlägiger Bibliotheksbauten jener Zeit wird auch der Frage nach der Rolle der Bibliothek und des Buches im Zeitalter der Aufklärung nachgegangen. Ebenso finden die großen Bücherwege jener Zeit Beachtung – beispielsweise die Auflösung von Klosterbibliotheken im Zuge der Säkularisation oder die Beutezüge des Dreißigjährigen Krieges. Bücherhändler und -sammler werden anhand von exemplarischen Beispielen vorgestellt. Ein detailliertes Inhaltsverzeichnis und ein umfangreiches Personen- und Ortsregister ermöglichen eine leichte und schnelle inhaltliche Erschließung dieses Katalogs.

The catalogue illuminates the development of the library and book culture from the mid-17th century to around 1830 through nine essays by renowned scholars and a lavishly illustrated catalogue section featuring over 300 valuable and rare exhibits from several centuries. In addition to the development of classification systems based on library catalogues, the emergence of the new profession of librarian and the architectural consideration of relevant library buildings of that time, the question of the role of libraries and books in the Age of Enlightenment is also explored. The major book migrations of that period are also considered, such as the dissolution of monastery libraries in the course of secularisation and the plundering during the Thirty Years' War. Booksellers and collectors are presented using exemplary examples.
