Diese Schrift ist die wohl verbreitetste und meistgelesene Schrift August Hermann Franckes (1663–1727). Sie wurde etwa 250 Jahre lang den vielen sowohl deutsch- als auch fremdsprachigen Bibelausgaben der Cansteinschen Bibelgesellschaft beigefügt und erreichte so Millionen von Menschen weltweit. Die Bibel war für Francke Grundlage und Kern des Christentums und Quelle des menschen- und weltverändernden Glaubens. Ihr tägliches Studium betrachtete er als unverzichtbare Kraftquelle. Im Zentrum seiner vielfältigen Reformbemühungen stand das Bestreben, die Bibel wieder zum wichtigsten Bestandteil des theologischen Studiums und zur Lebensmitte jedes Christen werden zu lassen. Wie dies konkret geschehen kann und soll, ist Thema des kleinen Traktates. Die Frage nach dem existenziellen Zugang zur Bibel und nach dem Umgang mit ihr ist bis heute aktuell und umstritten geblieben und Franckes Antwort darauf noch immer prägend und wegweisend.

This work is probably the most widely distributed and most widely read work by August Hermann Francke (1663–1727). For around 250 years, it was included in the many German and foreign-language editions of the Bible published by the Canstein Bible Society, reaching millions of people worldwide. For Francke, the Bible was the foundation and core of Christianity and the source of faith that changed people and the world. He regarded its daily study as an indispensable source of strength. At the heart of his diverse reform efforts was the desire to restore the Bible to its position as the most important component of theological study and the centre of every Christian's life. How this can and should be achieved in concrete terms is the subject of this short treatise. The question of existential access to the Bible and how to deal with it remains relevant and controversial to this day, and Francke's answer to it is still influential and groundbreaking.
