Der Verlag der Buchhandlung des Waisenhauses zu Halle

Als der pietistische Pastor und Universitätsprofessor August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) gegen Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts begann, vor den Toren der Stadt Halle ein Waisenhaus und ein komplexes Schulwesen aufzubauen, gründete er zu deren Finanzierung erwerbende Betriebe. Dazu zählte der Verlag der Buchhandlung des Waisenhauses, in dem bedeutende theologische, pädagogische, wissenschaftliche und regionalkundliche Werke vom Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts bis in das 20. Jahrhundert hinein erschienen sind. 
Die Titel aus diesem traditionsreichen, mit der Geschichte Halles und der Franckeschen Stiftungen eng verbundenen Verlags werden von seinen Anfängen bis zum Tod des ersten Inspektors des Verlags, Heinrich Julius Elers (1667–1728), im Jahr 1728 in einer ausführlichen Bibliographie erstmals verzeichnet. Die Bibliographie nennt 1.633 Titel und wird durch drei Register erschlossen.

When the pietistic pastor and university professor August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) began building an orphanage and a complex school system outside the gates of the city of Halle towards the end of the 17th century, he founded commercial enterprises to finance them. These included the publishing house of the orphanage bookshop, which published important theological, educational, scientific and regional works from the end of the 17th century into the 20th century.
The titles from this traditional publishing house, which is closely linked to the history of Halle and the Francke Foundations, are listed for the first time in a detailed bibliography covering the period from its beginnings to the death of the first inspector of the publishing house, Heinrich Julius Elers (1667–1728), in 1728. The bibliography lists 1,633 titles and is indexed by three registers.
