Die Geschichtsschreibung des Pietismus orientiert sich traditionellerweise an den theologischen Hauptgestalten der religiösen Reformbewegung des 17. und 18. Jahrhunderts. In der vorliegenden Studie dagegen wird am Beispiel des Pietismus hallescher Prägung die Bedeutung der weiblichen Gläubigen für die Durchsetzung des pietistischen Reformprogramms dargestellt. In biographischen Studien, für die die Autorin bislang unbeachtete Quellenbestände, an erster Stelle weibliche Selbstzeugnisse erschloss, analysiert sie Selbst- und Weltbild hallescher Pietistinnen. Jenseits einer zu Mythologisierung neigenden pietistischen Selbstdarstellung gerät zum ersten Mal die Erziehungswirklichkeit in den halleschen pädagogischen Anstalten in den Blick.

The historiography of Pietism has traditionally focused on the main theological figures of the religious reform movement of the 17th and 18th centuries. In contrast, this study uses the example of Pietism in Halle to illustrate the importance of female believers in the implementation of the Pietist reform program. In biographical studies, for which the author has tapped previously unnoticed sources, primarily female testimonies, she analyzes the self-image and worldview of Halle Pietist women. Beyond a Pietist self-portrayal that tends toward mythologization, the reality of education in Halle's educational institutions comes into focus for the first time.
