August Hermann Francke und sein Werk

The publication focuses on the person of August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) and his founding work – the Francke Foundations. A clear chronological and biographical presentation provides insight into the eventful life of the foundation's founder. Furthermore, the author portrays Francke from various perspectives, such as as a theologian, educator, and economist, in order to grasp his unique versatility as a central figure of Pietism and the early modern period. Furthermore, Francke's Pietist legacy over the centuries is illuminated by introducing the reader to Francke's most important successors as directors of the foundations and illustrating the network of global relationships radiating from Halle using examples from India and North America.
This thorough appreciation of Francke and his work concludes with an outlook by the current director of the foundation, Thomas Müller-Bahlke, on the current and future work of the Francke Foundations, which continue to function as a cultural educational cosmos in the spirit of the founder.
