This publication reflects the current popularity of anthropology in disciplinary and interdisciplinary research in the humanities and cultural studies. With the anthropological concepts that Pietism has absorbed in its historical and regional-territorial as well as its ›specialised‹ manifestations, which it has developed and formulated in various types of texts and literary genres, it was able to make an important contribution to the ›anthropological turn‹ in the 18th century.
The discussion documented here clarifies the place of Pietism in the ensemble of cultural currents in the 18th century, provides insights into the history of Pietism's impact and reception, and makes a significant contribution to the contouring of an interdisciplinary and practicable concept of Pietism. The field of anthropological research in particular offers sufficient openness for further deepening the dialogue with Enlightenment research that is required by the historical situation, and it also allows – in the spirit of disciplinary independence – for the further profiling of interdisciplinary Pietism research.
This book contains contributions in German and English.
