This small guidebook about the Francke Foundations informs about the history of the theologian August Hermann Francke (1663–1727) and his life’s work the Francke Foundations in Halle which were founded 1695 as a home for orphans and the poor people outside the gates of Halle. Throughout the centuries the Foundations were a christian-influenced school town with an interruption during the German Democratic Republic, in which they lost their independence. Since they got founded again in 1991 the Foundations are a lively cultural and educational cosmos on the original historical site.
In a second part the guidebook briefly explains the different buildings in the area of the Foundations. Also their historical and current functions are described.
