The publication’s department of the Francke Foundations publishes books that showcase the diverse work of the institution. Its publications include six academic series, richly illustrated exhibition catalogues and illustrated books.
The history of the publishing work of the Francke Foundations in Halle dates back to the founding of the institution. In continuation of this tradition founded in the late 17th century, the publications of the Foundations today appear under the name Verlag der Franckeschen Stiftungen. The publication's department offers its readers a broad spectrum of publications on the Francke Foundations and their history. From general information, exhibition catalogues and illustrated books to research literature, the wide range of activities of the Francke Foundations is also reflected in the publishing series. A major focus is on scientific publications.
The »Hallesche Forschungen« series publishes academic works on Pietism, the Francke Foundations, and their international relations in the form of conference proceedings or monographs.
The extensive collections owned by the Foundations, including the library, archives, and art and natural history collections, are catalogued in the »Hallesche Quellenpublikationen und Repertorien«.
The series »Neue Halleschen Berichte. Quellen und Studien zur Geschichte und Gegenwart Südindiens« and »Quellen zur Geschichte Sibiriens und Alaskas aus russischen Archiven« draw on the Foundations' long-standing international relations and contribute to international network building.
Selected source texts are published in the series »Kleine Quellentexte« while the »Kleine Schriftenreihe« publishes academic findings on the Francke Foundations and accompanying publications on the cabinet exhibitions.
The illustrated books, which offer representative insights into specific subject areas of the Foundations, as well as special standalone publications, including two children's books about the Francke Foundations, complete the publishing profile.
The richly illustrated exhibition catalogues of the Francke Foundations are a central component of their cultural and scientific programme. They provide additional and in-depth insights into the exhibition themes, and thus continue to inform beyond the exhibition itself.
